Fun Times At Cayo Costa State Park

With a sunrise like this... how could it NOT be a good day???
Riding the tram across the island along the walking trails.
Today we have designated as our Beach Day.  After our morning chores, we motored over to the dock where we would arrive just in time for the departing tram to the Gulf side beach.  We had been fully prepared to walk the 3/4 mile but hey, let’s ride, maybe we can walk back.

The park is ridiculously inexpensive… for $2 each, you can spend the entire day and use the free tram.  They also have tent camping spots and cabins.  Even more attractive to us… was the cold water rinse showers for use after the beach.  I threw in a bottle of 2-in-1 shampoo into the beach bag this morning, hoping to take advantage of their lovely and abundant fresh water before leaving, since it’s been three days since my last shampoo…

Could it be ANOTHER #1 Beach?
The beach was very uncrowded and with the offshore winds, the surf was light.

We spread our blanket and took off for a short walk, hoping for more sharks teeth.  No luck, so back to the blanket we go.  We watched boats come and go from the Charlotte Harbor Inlet, wondering where they were headed or where they had come from… I wanted to get into the water, but it was just a little bit too cold for me still…

I entertained myself with making a new page photo for Dos Libras.  Evidently this was interesting, as several people came over to see what I had made when I was finished.

Bruce... ever the Good Sport!
We enjoyed the feeling of not really having to do much of anything, and having all day to do it…

It's a family tradition...

We ate the lunch we brought…  It was just a lovely day.  Lying there on that warm blanket watching the shifting colors of the Gulf of Mexico as they lap gently at our feet...I spared a few thoughts for friends and loved ones who were still suffering in the clutches of winter… Its just hard to reconcile the two very different realities, ours and theirs, summer with winter.

Just watchin' the waves roll in...
We have finally escaped the clutches of winter… and its gonna be alright.

When we felt we had absorbed enough sunshine to get us through the next two days of forecast clouds, wind and rain… we packed up and searched out the shower.  It was nicely tucked into the privacy of the natural brush and had a fine strong spray of lovely COLD water!  Brisk, let’s say.

Ohhh!  COLD!!!
We stripped down to our swimsuits and washed our hair.  It was the goofiest thing we’ve done in a while and we laughed a lot!  MAN that water was cold!  Hey, when you’re cruising and water is scarce… you’ve gotta take advantage of every perk.  The shower alone was worth the $2 park entry fee…

Happy Girl Kickin' back on the tram.
We dripped dry as we left the shower and found the tram just unloading a group of new arrivals, so we hopped aboard for the ride back.  You just can’t get any more lucky than that!  We laughed as we overheard a conversation amongst the campers waiting to catch the boat back to the mainland… and “decent showers”.  It’s all about perspective…
